KARACHI: SHC adjourns hearing of detention plea

KARACHI, Oct 17: The Sindh High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing of a petition against the detention of a man under anti-terrorism law.

Suraiya Bibi submitted that her spouse Rasheed was arrested by Ibrahim Haideri police following a crackdown against banned religious organizations on July 19.

She said that the detainee was earlier booked under 11-EE of Anti Terrorism Act on July 19, 2005 but the administrative judge of Anti-Terrorism Courts in Karachi ordered his release on bail.

The police, she alleged, did not release the detainees although they were granted bail by the ATC and later the home department detained them under Section 11-EEE of the ATA. She said that since last three months, he was continuously detained without any charges.

SHC’s division bench, comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Azizullah M Memon, by consent of counsel adjourned the hearing till Oct 20 due to paucity of time.
