KARACHI, Oct 17: The adviser to chief minister on local government, Wasim Akhtar, inaugurated two primary schools for boys and girls separately in Taiser Town Scheme 45 here on Monday.
The project in question which is a part of the Lyari Rehabilitation Project would cost Rs9.6 million and would spread on an area of 15,500 square-feet.
Speaking on the occasion, the adviser said that the children were our future builders and it was the priority of the government to equip them with knowledge.
Mr Akhtar said that the government would take every possible step for the improvement of education and skill development facilities for the children of the families affected by the Lyari Rehabilitation Project.
He said that the project was aimed at providing better living conditions to those who had been living in the Lyari bed area in an unhygienic environment.
Mr Akhtar appealed to the parents to get their children enrolled in the schools so as to help foster a culture of education.
The adviser said that it was the responsibility of the dwellers to keep their areas clean and plant saplings to improve the environment.
He announced that a high school would also be established in the area soon, so that the youngsters especially girls need not to go to far off areas to acquire knowledge.
Director of the project, Shafiqur Rehman Piracha said that efforts were being made to ensure that none of the youngsters remained illiterate.
Earlier, the adviser visited the Citizen Foundation School in the area.
He was handed over truck load of relief goods collected by the youngsters studying at a teaching centre set up by the Pakistan Baitul Mal for those who were engaged in child labour, for the earthquake victims.—APP
