KARACHI, Oct 17: Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim has lauded the National Accountability Bureau’s fight against corruption and expressed hope that the NAB will keep on exposing corruption and misappropriation in order to help the society purge of various ills.

He was speaking as chief guest at an essay and paintings competition for the students of schools, colleges and universities organized by NAB Sindh at its premises on Monday.

“Corruption is mother of all ills. It is undermining all efforts of the government for accelerated economic growth and development. It is a major hurdle in providing good governance to the people,” he added.

The chief minister said that Pakistan was not alone in its fight against corruption, rather no country or nation had ever remained free from corruption. Even developed countries could not claim to be totally corruption-free, he said.

He pointed out that the most commonly known forms of corruption were bribery, gifts, embezzlement and misappropriation but the worst form of corruption was intellectual and professional dishonesty to please or benefit a few individuals at the cost of others.

“Equally dangerous is sycophancy which misleads the decision-makers and leaves harmful effects on the society,” he said.

He appreciated the NAB for fighting against corruption comprehensively and said it was commendable that NAB had organized essay and poster competition for students as a part of awareness drive among the youth against corruption.

The chief minister said that essay and poster competitions, seminars and holding of other like events prove NAB’s willingness to be an active partner for fight against corruption. He congratulated all the winners and hoped that these young students would go a long way in fight against corruption.

Later, he distributed prizes among the winners of the competition. —APP
