KARACHI: Multinationals, FPCCI donating over Rs140m
KARACHI, Oct 17: Several multinational firms operating in Pakistan, and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry have pledged a total of Rs140 million aid in cash, kind and services while the FPCCI has undertaken setting up of a ‘tent village’ for the October 8 quake victims with the tents costing 100 million pounds sterling received from the United Kingdom.
UNILEVER: The Unilever Pakistan would contribute Rs70 million towards the Earthquake Relief efforts, according to an announcement made by the firm here on Monday.
It said that this contribution would be in addition to a substantial amount raised through its employees’ contributions which were being matched by the company.
In view of the desperate need for immediate relief, as well as long-term reconstruction and rebuilding, the Unilever has divided the utilization of its contribution in two phases:
In the first phase, it will deposit Rs35 million in the president’s relief fund for immediate requirements like food, shelter and warm clothing for the quake victims, while in the second phase, a matching amount would be provided for the reconstruction and rebuilding process in the quake-hit areas to be carried out in partnership with The Citizen’s Foundation (TCF), already engaged in promotion of primary education in the country.
The Unilever is also providing its products — tea, Glaxose-D, bathing soap, etc., — free of cost for quake victims to a number of organizations engaged in relief work.
FPCCI: President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry Chaudhry Mohammad Saeed will present a cheque of Rs20 million to President Pervez Musharraf for the relief and rehabilitation of earthquake victims.
The FPCCI would also contribute Rs30 million in cash and kind which would be distributed among the victims of the October 8 quake victims directly by the federation, an FPCCI statement said here on Monday.
It has also made arrangements for a ‘tent village’ to be set up with 600 tents worth over 100 million pounds sterling received from the United Kingdom.
The FPCCI managing committee in its meeting held here on Saturday last formed three committees for collecting and organizing donations for relief and rehabilitation.
NESTLE: The Nastle Pakistan will contribute Rs20 million towards the rehabilitation work it intends to undertake in the disaster affected areas, according to a statement made by the firm here on Monday.
The firm has also decided to adopt a village in Azad Kashmir and rebuild it as a model village.
The donation amount is being raised through contribution from the firm’s employees and a matching grant by its management.
SHAHEEN AIR: Management and staff of the Shaheen Air in Pakistan and Gulf have donated their one-day salary to the president’s relief fund for earthquake victims.
The airline has also given a number of free tickets to members of rescue teams who proceeded to the quake-hit areas for taking part in the relief operations.
PCDA: The Pakistan Chemists and Druggists Association handed over medicines worth millions of rupees to Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation for the victims of earthquake-ravaged areas.
