Relief trains from Karachi reach Havelian

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Oct 16: Two freight trains carrying 2,400 tones of relief goods, collected and donated by several religious and social organizations in Karachi, reached Havelian railway station on Sunday.

According to a handout issued by the Inter-Service Public Relations here, this biggest consignment of relief goods will be sent to the quake-hit areas, where affected and displaced people extremely need basic edible items.

The welfare organisations and philanthropists on their own have sent tones of relief goods to the Mansehra relief camp.

The army has shifted its relief information centre from Hasanabdal to Havelian, where welfare organisations are provided with latest information about the affected areas. Donors are advised to send relief goods to the areas where people badly need them.

The army transported about 10 truckloads of relief goods to Battagaram and Alai valley from its main collection centre at Colonel Sher Khan Stadium in Peshawar on Sunday.

The army medical corps has dispatched medical teams — either by foot, on mules or by helicopters — to the worst hit areas in upper Hazara. The helicopters did 49 sorties for the purpose on Sunday.

The army signal corps has restored civilian communication system in Abbottabad and installed a powerful booster near Thandiyyani.

The military is helping police in maintaining law and order in the devastated areas.
