ABBOTTABAD, Oct 16: A large number of families leaving quake-hit zone have started coming to Abbottabad to take shelter in various government buildings.
Officials said that over 100 families from Muzaffarbad, Bagh, Balakot and affected areas of Hazara region had arrived so far in Abbottabad. They have been provided shelter in the government buildings.
They said many displaced families had occupied District Council Hall, Town Hall, Jalal Baba Auditorium, T & T colony, Liaquat Lines, Piffer Colony. Some have settled with their relatives and friends living in the district.
The NWFP government has directed the district government to house the affected families in the government buildings. More victims from upper parts of Hazara are on their way to plain areas in a bid to escape from harsh weather.
Despite mismanagement and lack of coordination between government functionaries and relief workers, the work is continuing everywhere in the affected zone.
According to reports, over 40 teams of doctors, with paramedics and medicines, were sent from the Ayub Medical Complex till date to all parts of Hazara division. The process is continuing as a number of foreign teams are still arriving in the city.
Last helpers’ team to arrive the city was that of Koreans, which has started working, while another team from Korea sponsored by Daewoo is also in the city.
Teams from America and England were scheduled to land in the city on Sunday.
National and international teams of doctors have arrived in almost all the affected areas. The first aid is now provided locally, with some major operations.
Rescue teams could not reach some remote areas in Hazara, especially Kaghan, Naran and Balakot.
The first tent village, having a capacity of at least 1,000 persons, was made functional on the premises of Ayub Medical Complex by a local NGO, Abbottonian, with the support of Dan Basco, the world fame NGO working purely on humanitarian basis. The Korean government medical team has started its operation at the Ayub Medical Complex where they are providing emergency cover also to the earth quack victims.
The NWFP government has also started work on the tent village at AMC for which secretary Communication and Works Riaz Khan visited the site and ordered for the early start of work while another place at Havelian was also selected for the second tent village.
A team the Sindh Institute of Urology has saved the lives of three patients brought from Balakot and Muzaffarbad by providing early dialysis facility.
Federal Ministers Babar Ghouri, Jehangir Tareen, Naseer Khan visited the affected areas of Hazara and moved to Muzaffarabad. Almost all the national leaders of country’s political parties are making frequent visits to the areas and providing relief goods to the people.
Countless local NGOs and organizations, individually and collectively, are working with for the humanitarian in the areas without any break while there was no count of volunteers coming from across the country.
Donors from abroad were also taking keen interest and are using their personal contacts to dispatch goods through their personal resources in terms of goods especially medicines and cash.
