PM will attend Saarc summit next month
ISLAMABAD, Oct 16: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that Pakistan will not seek postponement of the 13th Saarc summit despite the devastation caused by the country’s worst-ever earthquake.
The summit is scheduled to be held in Bangladesh next month.
Talking to Dawn after a news briefing at the PM House, Mr Shaukat Aziz said he would attend the summit next month.
“I will attend the summit now that systems have been put in place for the relief operation and rehabilitation process,” he said, setting aside all speculation.
A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said on Friday that Pakistan would attend the regional summit in Dhaka because the country was determined to keep up the momentum of the Saarc process.
“Despite the difficult situation and widespread devastation caused by the earthquake, the Government of Pakistan is committed to keeping the Saarc process moving and in this spirit it is looking forward to attend the 13th Saarc summit from 12-13 November 2005 at Dhaka,” the spokesperson said.—Q.A.
