SYDNEY, Oct 15: Indian batsman Rahul Dravid on Saturday described his appointment as Indian one-day cricket captain as “an honour and a privilege”. Speaking in Sydney where he is a member of World XI taking on Australia in Super Series six-day Super Test, Dravid said he was delighted to have won the nod to take over from Sourav Ganguly.

“It is an honour and a privilege to have been named as captain of India for next two series,” he said of upcoming series against Sri Lanka and South Africa.

“We will be playing against two great teams and I am very much looking forward to the challenges that both series will present.”

“I was informed of the appointment by secretary of BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and chairman of selectors.

“As it was during a game it was quite a brief conversation in which they congratulated me on my appointment.”

“Once this very important match here in Sydney is over, I look forward to returning to India and meeting up with the coach (Greg Chappell), selectors and other players to make plans for the matches that are ahead of us.”—PPI
