Kamran Shehzad emerges as fastest bowler


LAHORE, Oct 15: Kamran Shehzad of Lahore bowled the fastest ball (85.9 mph) of the PCB Pace Attack contest as the countrywide month-long regional round concluded at Qadhafi Stadium under lights on Friday night.

Two other bowlers Shahid Iqbal and Muhammad Shafiq have also been selected from Lahore after two days’ trials to appear in the final of Attack. They clocked 84.1 mph and 82.8 mph respectively.

More than 1400 young fast bowlers of Lahore region appeared in the Lahore leg of the competition.

The contest, jointly organised by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), started at Quetta’s Bugti Stadium on Sept 20.

The other venues were Peshawar, Abbottabad, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan, Hyderabad, Karachi, Rawalpindi/Islamabad and now Lahore.

From each centre, three of the fastest bowling boys have been picked to appear in the final, to be staged under the lights at Qadhafi Stadium on Oct 16 and 17.

The final will feature 30 selected bowlers from all these cities, of whom the top six will join the national cricket camp for possible selection to play for the Pakistan team during the coming England tour which starts later this month.—APP
