QUETTA, Oct 15: The Saturday’s session of the Balochistan Assembly was marred by uproar. The house witnessed uproar twice, once when an opposition member claimed that the education minister tore the letter of chief minister and secondly when a ruling party member and minister for revenue traded charges against each other for collecting ‘ghundah’ tax in Bolan district.
In the absence of the speaker and deputy speaker the group panel members Abdur Rahim Ziaratwal from the opposition benches and Samina Saeed from the treasury, respectively, chaired the session on Saturday.
The house admitted the adjournment motion of the opposition leader pertaining to frequent hike in the prices of petroleum products and general discussion on the motion would be held on Oct 18.
Revenue Minister Mir Asim Kurd and Mir Shah Zaman Rind during speeches on the admissibility of privilege motion used hot words as Mr Kurd alleged that an MNA was collecting ‘ghundah’ tax from officials and contractors but Mr Rind accused the revenue minister of receiving unlawful tax.
Mr Rind tabled a motion complaining that the MPA development fund was not released and also raised FIR copies asserting that name of the revenue minister was included in the FIR for alleged crimes.
The speaker disposed of the motion following assurance by the senior minister that if the mover had submitted the PC-I reports than his case would be forwarded to the finance department for the release of funds.
Opposition member Mir Jan Mohammad Buledi said: “We have been saying that neither the law and order situation was satisfactory in the province, nor the government was running affairs transparently, but today both the members of the treasury benches endorsed our claims that ‘ghundah’ tax was being collected by the ruling party members.”
The house witnessed pandemonium during the question hour when opposition member Shafique Ahmed Khan on a point of order alleged that the education minister had insulted him and tore the letter of the chief minister asking to stop the transfer of a college teacher.
Education Minister Maulana Abdul Wahid Siddique acknowledged that he tore the letter as the college teacher for last three months had became a headache for him and had brought hundreds of recommendations to stop his transfer to Musakhel college.
The minister, however, on insistence tendered apology to the opposition member and assured that the official would be transferred to some other college where Statistics was taught. After that order was restored in the house.
