KARACHI: Considerable donations by local, foreign entities

KARACHI, Oct 15: International and domestic entities have been pledging more assistance for the victims of October 8 victims in cash and kind. The Emirates Airlines joined in the relief efforts and transported more than 110 tonnes of cargo supplies from relief agencies to the affected areas by a special charter flight to Islamabad, free of cost.

The relief supplies included tents, blankets and medicines, and were received from the Pakistani consulate in Dubai and the Joint Committee of Pakistani associations there.

The airline has also transported relief supplies on behalf of the French and British governments and international relief agencies and charities by its 35 weekly flights —- five to Islamabad, 25 to Karachi, four to Lahore and two to Peshawar.

The Attock Group of Companies comprising Pakistan Oilfields Limited, Attock Refinery, National Refinery, Attock Petroleum and Attock Cement, has pledged Rs45 million towards the President’s relief fund. Employees of the group have also donated their two-day salary to the fund. The group has dispatched three truck-loads with dry foods, dates, etc., to the quake-hit areas of Abbotabad and Mansehra.

Mohammadali family and House of Habib Companies have contributed over Rs120 million towards earthquake relief operations.

They are also running their own relief operations in Muzaffarabad and Mansehra to cater to the immediate needs of quake victims.

They have constituted relief teams comprising doctors, paramedics and volunteers which are working in the affected areas along with a fleet of 11 new Toyota Hilux vehicles meant for transporting relief and medical supplies to remote settlements.

The Habib Bank has decided to consider appropriate relief against the outstanding housing loan of the employees whose houses were destroyed by the earthquake in the AJK, NWFP and Northern Areas.

The Pakistan Beema Company has appealed to the government to swiftly evoke 320 new fire and rescue station regime. Staff of the company have donated their one-day salary to the relief fund.

The Dadabhoy Group of Companies on Saturday announced a donation of Rs5 million to the President’s relief fund for earthquake victims, agencies add.

Senator Mohammad Amin Dadabhoy has also personally donated Rs500,000 to the Senate’s Emergency Relief Fund.

The Platinum Pharmaceuticals has dispatched medicines worth Rs3 million over the past week to the quake-stricken areas. It is sending more medicine supplies worth Rs1 million in the coming days.

Besides, the firm has pledged construction of four schools in different quake-affected localities.
