KARACHI: More medical teams off to earthquake-hit areas
KARACHI, Oct 15: A 30-member medical team left here for the earthquake-stricken areas on the directive of City Nazim-elect Syed Mustafa Kamal to provide medical facility to affected people.
According to a CDGK statement, the team comprising doctors and paramedical staff is headed by DO Health Dr Mirza Raza Ali.
Four truck-loads of medicines and medical equipment worth Rs1.5 million have also been dispatched along with the team.
Speaking on the occasion of the team’s departure, DCO Karachi Fazlur Rehman expressed his confidence that the team would work with full dedication and vigour to help alleviate sufferings of the quake victims.
SINDH POLICE: The Sindh Police on Saturday dispatched six trucks of blankets, tents, medicines, edibles and other relief good from the Police Headquarters, Garden, to quake-his areas.
Some 250 police officers and jawans from Karachi, Sukkur and Hyderabad regions, led by DSP Asif Razzaq Khan, have been sent to Azad Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, NWFP and other areas for providing assistance to quake victims.
SUPPLIES: Sindh Minister for Health Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani on Friday evening saw off five more truck-loads of medicines destined for the earthquake-hit areas.
The medicines included antibiotics, life-saving drugs, drips, bandages, pain-killers, plaster, surgical equipment, tents, mineral water and cloth measuring 27,000 metres.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister stated that the health department was sending a third batch of 50 doctors and paramedical staff constituting two teams to Muzaffarabad.
He said that the health department has so far dispatched medicines worth Rs1.4 million to the affected areas.
LNH SERVICES: The Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) is continuing its relief and rescue services in the quake-hit areas in collaboration with the army and air force, which are providing boarding and lodging facility to the NLG teams.
The LNH teams are based at the DHQ Hospital, Abbotabad. The teams, comprising general, plastic, orthopaedic and neuro surgeons, are operating a large number of patients round the clock while physicians and paramedical staff accompanying the teams are taking care of patients in post-operation treatment.
Another LNH team of surgeon, medical officers and paramedical staff is leaving on Sunday to strengthen the mission.
A large quantity of medicines, including antibiotics, analgesics, etc., as well as surgical items and equipment are also being dispatched with the team.
The Crisis Management Cell at the Liaquat National Hospital is also working round the clock to organize and coordinate the LNH relief activities and raise funds for the relief and rescue work.
