KARACHI: Donations continue to pour in

KARACHI, Oct 14: Donations for the earthquake victims are pouring in from within the country and abroad. The members of the American Business Council of Pakistan and their parent companies have so far contributed over Rs 1 billion (US $ 17 million) towards the earthquake relief fund. These contributions are in cash and relief goods mainly medicines, food, tents and blankets.

ABC President, Mr Zubyr Soomro, personally met the Prime Minister, Mr Shaukat Aziz to brief him on the relief efforts of each individual member company and presented an additional contribution of Rs3.7 million through the ABC platform.

KESC: Concerned over the pain and sufferings, workers and officers of the Karachi electric Supply Corporation have made voluntary contribution of Rs26 million from their monthly salaries to the quake hit people.

P&G: The International P&G Fund has donated 50 million litres of potable water through a $250,000 (Rs15,000,000) contribution. This will be achieved through distribution of 5 million sachets of PuR water purifier. Additionally, 500,000 sachets of PuR water purifier have been donated to PSI and their local affiliate, Greenstar Social Marketing. The total worth of these sachets is $15,000 (Rs900,000).

RECKITT BENCKISER: Reckitt Benckiser Pakistan has donated four million Dettol water purifying tablets, one million Disprin tablets and 4000 gallons of Dettol antiseptic liquid for first aid purposes to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

ENGRO: Engro Chemicals has so far donated Rs20 million in cash to the President’s Earthquake Relief Fund. The employees of the company have donated one to three days salary. Engro Vopak Terminal Ltd, have deposited Rs 1 million to the Presidents Relief Fund and have announced to deposit one days salary donated by the employees. Engro Asahi is planning to donate Rs1 million to The Citizens Foundation whereas employees have contributed a total of Rs357,724 to the Edhi’s Relief Fund.

OPL: Otsuka Pakistan Limited has donated 100,000 bottles of Life Saving I.V. Solution worth Rs5 million to the earthquake victims and 10,000 masks for volunteers in the affected areas.

AIRLINES: All Saudi Arabian Airlines Employees based in Pakistan have donated one day’s salary towards the president’s relief fund for the earthquake victims.

OMBUDSMAN: Sindh Ombudsman Yusuf Jamal has donated the entire amount of his discretionary grant to the relief fund. Other employees have also contributed their one and two days’ salary.

ZMU: Ziauddin Medical University is setting up a field hospital in the earthquake affected areas.

AKUH: The second team from Aga Khan University Hospital, comprising nurses, left for Muzaffarabad on Friday to help in the earthquake relief efforts.

The team, equipped with critically needed surgical instruments and medicines, will be based in Armed Forces Medical Institute, Muzaffarabad.

LNH: The Liaquat National Hospital has established a crisis management cell, which would develop teams of doctors, paramedics and technicians as per requirement of the incident site.

PPA: The Pakistan Paediatric Association has responded actively to the national disaster facing Pakistan. Its advance teams of doctors have already reached Mansehra, Balakot and Muzaffarabad.

HEALTH DEPTT: On the behalf of health department, Sindh Health Minister Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani handed over three truck-loads of relief goods for quake victims to the members of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Coordination Committee at a relief camp set up by Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation.

Relief goods include medicines, masks, 15,000 metre shrouds, clothes and surgical instruments worth Rs0.475 million.

PRAYERS OFFERED: The Chief Minister, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, on Friday offered Nimaz-i-Astaghfaar at the jamia mosque of the Chief Minister’s House.

The prayer was led by Qazi Shoukat Qureshi, and a number of provincial ministers, advisers, chief secretary, DIG Police Karachi, secretaries, senior officers and citizens attended.

Nimaz-i-Astaghfaar was also offered in all cities and towns of the province.
