KARACHI: 15,000 cans donated for relief found expired

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 14: Police are looking for the owner of a food-tin packing unit, who allegedly donated 15,000 expired cans, in the relief goods for the earthquake victims. An FIR was lodged at the Site police station on the complaint of SITE Association’s Secretary Asif Jehangir on Thursday.

SHO Site police station said that Hashmi Can Company started the business of packing food cans in 2000, but closed down the packing work after a year. A few days back, the company donated 596 cartons containing 15,000 food cans which had reportedly expired in 2002 to the Site Association.

However, during the final packing before dispatching the relief consignment the expiry date was noticed and a case was lodged with the police. Police picked up some staff of the industrial unit on Friday and started looking for the owner of the industrial unit.
