KARACHI, Oct 14: The city nazim’s office, situated on the ground floor of Civic Centre, is being renovated and refurbished at an estimated cost of around Rs3 million. The work, which was being executed round-the-clock by the works and services department reportedly on the directives of DCO Fazlur Rehman, is expected to be completed in a couple of days.

The newly elected nazim, Mustafa Kamal, is schedule to take oath of his office on Monday. After completion of renovation work, he might start sitting in the nazim’s secretariat from Tuesday.

During a visit to the nazim’s office, comprising three rooms, this correspondent saw that the workers were busy in replacing the teakwood’s panelling of inner walls of the nazim’s office with the Lassani’s chipboard.

Besides, all the doors of the nazim’s office, numbering about six, have already been replaced with new ones. New false ceilings with a number of lights and tiles have already been affixed.

The new furniture for the nazim’s office, order for which has reportedly been placed with a famous furniture firm, will soon be provided there.

Sources in the city government’s works and services department claimed that the renovation was being carried out on the instructions of DCO Karachi although the newly-elected nazim has issued no such directives.
