KARACHI: Muttahida activist shot dead

KARACHI, Oct 14: An activist of the Mutthida Qaumi Movement died and three others, including a former superintendent of Central Prison Karachi, were injured in an ambush in Gulshan-i-Iqbal minutes before Iftar on Friday police said.

SHO Aziz Bhatti said four persons were travelling in a car on main Gulshan road when they were ambushed near Ashfaq Memorial Hospital when unknown persons opened fire at the car.

Police said one of the occupants of the car, identified as Fahim Farooqi, an activist of MQM, died on the spot as he suffered a bullet wound in the head.

Rest of the persons who sustained bullet wounds were taken to Liaquat National Hospital for treatment.

The injured were identified as Pir Shabir Jan Sarhandi, former superintendent of central jail, Sohail and Zafar.

Police suspected that the attackers’ target might have been Pir Shabir Jan Sarhandi.

Police said that there are unconfirmed reports suggesting that the occupants of the car had also returned the fire, but it could not be confirmed immediately.

ACCIDENTS: Two persons died in accidents on Friday.

A young man died and three others were injured when a bus of route (4-L) collided with a minibus in Gulshan-i-Maymar.

In another accident, a cleaner of a truck died when he fell from his moving truck in Kharadar. The victim, identified as Mukhtar Ahmed, was crushed by the vehicle. The body was sent to the Civil Hospital.
