Pakistan to compete in Darjeeling

ISLAMABAD, Oct 13: A Pakistan team is to leave for Darjeeling, India next week to compete in the first World Taekwondo Championship.

The squad comprising four players and two officials will fly out from Lahore on the 17th for the Oct 21-22 championship a spokesman for the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) said.

A training camp in preparation for the event Pakistan has been in progress at the Pakistan Sports Complex from Aug 25. It will continue till the departure of the team.

The top 20 players including those who performed exceptionally well at the last National Championship are attending the camp.

Following the final trials held at the start of the month Shahzad Ahmed (finweight, Army), Kashif Khan (bantamweight, Wapda), Rehmat Jan (lightweight, Army) and Mujhaid Hussain (welterweight, Railways) were selected.

Naseebullah Babar and Murtaza Hasan will accompany the team as manager and coach respectively.
