FAISALABAD, Oct 13: Sonia Naz, the alleged victim of rape at the hands of police, has demanded the chief justice, chief minister and the Punjab IGP to immediately order arrest of suspended SP Abdullah Khalid, the main accused, inspector Jamshed Iqbal Chishti and other officials nominated in the case.
Speaking to this correspondent by her cell phone on Thursday, Ms Naz, the wife of former excise clerk Asim Yousaf, said she was still being harassed by the accused and their cronies.
She said the efforts she had made for her defence in the case bore ample testimony to the fact that women victims in a male-dominated society could get justice only by exposing the callous people and that, too, by putting up a brave face against all odds.
She made it clear that she would not leave the country at any cost and pursue the cases registered against the accused policemen by utilizing whatever resources she had. The registration of a case against the SP and his cronies would be pursued in all courts so that they (the perpetrators) could be made an example for other hardened criminals.
“I am being intimidated and harassed not only by the accused police officials, but also some of my relatives only because of the pressure exerted by the influential people. But it is clear there will be no compromise on the issue and the criminals would have to face the music,” she reaffirmed.
Criticizing the role of the Lahore police, she said the case investigation had been entrusted to a sub-inspector in violation of the Supreme Court order of deputing an officer not less than the rank of DIG.
Ms Naz has appealed to the senior police officers and Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi to order arrest of the accused.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the case investigation has been entrusted to DIG Tariq Saleem Dogar, the Lahore police chief, who has summoned Sonia Naz to record her statements.
