KARACHI, Oct 13: A young girl from Faisalabad requesting anonymity has donated her entire dowry to the quake relief fund, being collected by the Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
The example set by the girl has been lauded by the MQM chief, Altaf Hussain.
A truck-load of relief items, including her dowry, has now reached the Muttahida at Abbotabad, said Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Environment, Noman Saigol.
In the meantime, over 200 mini vans and 40 more trucks, loaded with medicines, food and clothing were handed over to the PAF and the Central Ordnance Depot by the welfare wing of the MQM for onward transmission of the relief goods to the affected areas.
A second batch of 78 volunteers simultaneously left by Tezgam this afternoon with stoves, utensils, blankets to assist those engaged in distributing aid items to the victims in areas still cut off by roads. These volunteers are trained to work in difficult conditions, said the MQM deputy convenor while talking to newsmen after seeing off the second batch at the Cantonment Station. The first batch of 57 volunteers had left for Rawalpindi on Wednesday.
Dr Farooq Sattar said that so far aid items worth Rs 120 million in nearly 100 trucks were sent through rail, road and by air. The MQM has already established base camp at Mansehra and in Azad Kashmir.
