KARACHI: Edhi slams customs officials

Published October 14, 2005

KARACHI, Oct 13: The Edhi Foundation on Thursday criticized the customs officials at the Islamabad airport for levy of customs duty on relief goods being received from various countries.

The spokesman said that the government had announced that there would be no levy of duty or taxes on relief goods.

He said when the Edhi volunteers reached the airport, they were asked to pay customs duty on relief goods and a customs officer Yunus Qureshi refused to clear the goods until taxes were paid.

Abdul Sattar Edhi was quoted as saying that some people were trying to tarnish the image of the government.
