Published October 14, 2005

HYDERABAD, Sept 24: The fifth additional district and sessions judge, Hyderabad, Mr Obaidullah, has issued a show-cause notice to Tando Mohammad Khan DCO Mohammad Siddique Memon for disobeying court order and avoiding to attend the court.

The order was issued on two separate applications which pertained to election-related complaints against the district administration and police.

The complaints were filed by Miran Mohammad Shah advocate on behalf of Syed Mohsin Shah Bukhari, Fazal Ahmed Nizamani and Mohammad Khan Chang who had contested in the third phase of elections on different seats.

The court had earlier directed DPO operations and DCO Tando Mohammad Khan to appear in person before the court.

Police officials had appeared in the court and said that no harassment was caused to applicants and in future no harassment would be caused.

The applications were disposed of and the third phase of elections were also held.

The applicants’ counsel agitated the point for disobedience to court order by the DCO Tando Mohammad Khan.

The court repeated a notice to the DCO on October 1, requiring him to appear in person on October 12 (Wednesday).

Again he did not appear before the court.

The court issued a show-cause notice requiring him to explain why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against him for showing disobedience to the court.

PROTEST: Residents blocked the Hala Nako road after a boy was run over and killed by a prison van on Thursday in the Hatri police area.

The mother of Ghani, son of Abdul Ghafoor Pathan, was washing clothes near the lined channel when her son suddenly appeared on the road and was run over by a prison van which was on its way to Mirpurkhas along with under-trial prisoners.

The van driver accelerated the speed and fled, sensing reaction by residents of the locality.

The boy was taken to the civil hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The residents burnt tyres on the roads protesting against the incident.

The Mirpurkhas police were accordingly informed by the Hatri police.

Hatri police SHO Nawaz Arain said the matter had been amicably settled after the Mirpurkhas police arrived there and offered condolences to the bereaved family.

He said it was an accident and the boy’s family was willing to pardon the driver.
