KARACHI: Two ST activists shot dead

KARACHI, Oct 13: Tension prevailed on Thursday in parts of Baldia and Orangi following killing of two activists of the Sunni Tehreek late Thursday night.

Akhtar Shah, 25, was standing near his home in Turk Muhallah in Baldia when two persons on a motorcycle pulled up and opened fire on him and fled.

The injured was rushed to Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead. On Thursday, victim’s father, Safdar Shah, lodged an FIR about the incident.

In another accident, another activist of the Sunni Tehreek, Mohammad Ali Qadri, 27, was shot dead by unknown persons at a shop in Orangi.

He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died during treatment.

DIES: A police official who was critically injured in an attack on him at Jehangir Road on Wednesday died during treatment late Wednesday night.

SI Abid Shah was heading towards Preedy Police Station when he was fired upon by unknown persons at Jehangir Road. He was rushed to Civil Hospital where he died during treatment late in the night.

ENCOUNTER: A bandit was gunned down and his two accomplices were arrested after a brief encounter with the police in Sector 5-L, New Karachi on Thursday.

Police said three suspects entered the house of Qadeer Ahmed, and made his family hostage and started looting goods.

Meanwhile, some area residents informed the Madadgar-15. The police reached the locality and surrounded the house.

Sensing danger, the robbers made the family member hostage. An encounter ensued which resulted in injuries to one of the suspects, the police added.

Later, the police overpowered two suspects and took the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. However, he breathed his last on way to the hospital.

The body was shifted to Abbasi Hospital where deceased’s accomplices disclosed his identity as Bhaiya while the arrested robbers were identified as Saleem and Nadeem.

Police claimed to have recovered three pistols and few bullets from their possession, besides Rs5,000 cash, two mobile phones and jewellery.
