Published October 14, 2005

ISLAMABAD, Oct 13: The Central Board of Revenue has exempted the local supply of all goods meant for free distribution and procured out of the President’s Relief Fund for earthquake victims from the sales tax levy.

The decision was announced through a sales tax notification SRO1035 of 2005 issued on Thursday. The facility of exemption would be available on purchases made by the government on President Relief Fund as well as by approved voluntary non-government organizations and those made by registered manufacturers for free distribution amongst the earthquake victims.

The exemption would remain effective for 30 days from the date of issuance. At the import stage, the exemption from sales tax levy for goods received in event of a natural disaster or other catastrophe is already in place.
