Lara hoping to get act together

SYDNEY, Oct 12: He’s a 36-year-old has-been and the years are beginning to tell with his receding hairline and expanding waistline but Prince of Trinidad and King of batsmen believes there is more greatness to come from him.

“I was short of competitive work and hadn’t played competitive cricket since June against Pakistan, so it was always going to be tough coming up against best team in the world and to get runs right away, especially in one-day arena,” Lara said.

On Wednesday Lara batted twice in the nets, the only member of the ICC World XI to do so.

Having had regulation half hour session along with squad’s other batsmen, he stayed behind for another 40 minutes after his fellow ‘all stars’ had moved on to fielding practise.

“A couple more practice sessions, and a version of the game I’m more comfortable with, Test cricket, I can get my act together. More of your natural ability comes out in Test cricket and I’m looking forward to it,” Lara said.

Super Series concept is one Lara enjoys although he, like all his team-mates, believes Australia have a natural advantage as they are used to playing together as a team.

“The (World XI) guys here are individually very good players, they’re great players. But team concept is always going to take us time. Hopefully we can do it in Test match.

“They are going to be little more composed but your true character comes out in a Test,” Lara said.—Agencies
