Differences in MMA come to limelight

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Oct 12: Differences among MMA components are coming in the open as alliance president Qazi Husain Ahmad says they have not allowed NWFP Chief Minister Akram Durrani to attend the National Security Council (NSC) meeting.

“It is his (Durrani’s) personal decision as the MMA has not allowed him to do so.”

The religious alliance was keeping to the decision it has taken in its summit meetings and any change in it is possible only in a meeting of chiefs of component parties, he said.

Durrani’s decision would be discussed in a meeting of elders, the MMA president said.

Condemning Gen Musharraf for convening the NSC meeting, he said the army ruler was attempting to prolong his dictatorship by convening the meeting of a controversial institution at a time when the nation needed national unity and harmony.

He said instead the prime minister should have requisitioned a joint session of the parliament for discussing the quake situation and preparing a strategy to overcome the problems being faced by the victims.
