KARACHI, Oct 12: Three earthquake victims evacuated from Balakot with multiple injuries were admitted to Civil Hospital Karachi on Wednesday afternoon, said hospital sources.

The wounded persons, a woman, a teenaged boy and a girl child, belong to the same family and reportedly remained under debris for 24-48 hours. A couple of philanthropists sponsored their air tickets for Karachi, where some of their relatives are now attending them, said a CHK official.

The survivors have been identified as Saeeda, 50, her granddaughter Muskan, 3, and their close relative Raja Yasir, 18.

Talking to Dawn, Medical Superintendent of the CHK Dr Kaleem Butt said that the victims, who had sustained severe injuries, had been shifted from emergency ward to other wards and were now out of danger. He said that a delegation of philanthropists which had gone to Balakot for relief work had found them in a miserable condition and brought them to the CKK at around 1.30pm on Wednesday.

Muskan’s right leg was badly damaged as she remained under the rubble of the house she lived in. She was taken out 24 hours after the house collapsed and was rushed to Mansehra District Hospital where she stayed for two days. She was given a simple dressing to her crushed leg, it was learnt.

According to the MS, Muskan had now been shifted from the Emergency Ward to the Orthopaedic Unit of the CHK.

About Yasir, it is said that he is the only survivor of a bus which was carrying 13 students to a college. The bus came under a huge mountain set off by the earthquake. The vehicle fell into a deep ditch and buried under debris.

Raja Yasir, who remained under the debris for 24 hours and somehow managed to get out of it, sustained multiple injuries in his head, chest, abdomen and a leg.

Ms Saeeda was in her house when the calamity hit Balakot. She had remained under the rubble of the house for 48 hours and suffered injuries on different parts of her body.
