LAHORE, Oct 11: Two-time national champions Army struck twice in the second session to beat Faisalabad’s Panther Club 2-0 in Pakistan Premier Soccer League on Tuesday at Rawalpindi’s Army Stadium.
According to information provided by Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), the success put Army into second place behind Wapda with 36 points from 17 matches.
Leading marksman Imran Hussain struck another goal to raise his tally to 15. He swept the ball in the 70th minute after Muhammad Shabbir had given soldiers the lead. The first half was goalless.
Meanwhile, League-leaders Wapda failed to gain expected full points when Pakistan Navy put up a stubborn display to hold them to a goalless draw. The tight defence of the seamen provided no gaps for Wapda front runners Arif Mehmood, Imran Niazi, Zulfiqar Ali Shah to break the deadlock.
Wapda, having 41 points, lead the table while NBP and Afghan Club are on third and fourth spot. Navy pocketed only 16 points from 19 matches and are currently on the tenth spot above 11th-placed Panther Club.
