Two major events next month

ISLAMABAD, Oct 11: Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (WF) will organise two major competitions next month, it was officially learnt on Tuesday. It will hold the 28th Quaid-i-Azam Senior National ranking weightlifting tournament at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad, on Nov 29-30.

Earlier, it will stage the 2nd “Commemorative” Inter-provincial weightlifting championships on Nov 15-16 at Deepalpur, near Pak Pattan.

Both the events will feature eight body weight categories — 56, 62, 69, 77, 85, 94, 105 and over-105 kilograms.

Weightlifters from the four provinces, Islamabad, Wapda, Railways, Higher Educations Commission and Police will be eligible to compete in the national event at PSC, Islamabad.

However, the Inter-provincial competition at Deepalpur will be open only to teams and lifters from the four provinces as well as Islamabad.

For the event at Islamabad, any number of weightlifters have been allowed to take part in one weight category while lifters who have already taken part in the juniors under-20 and Youth under-17 ranking tournaments, held on Sept 24-25 at Lahore are not allowed to take part.

The gold and silver medal-winners of each weight category in the national championship will join the national training camp at Pakistan Sports Complex here to prepare for the 18th Commonwealth Games, to be held at Melbourne in March next year and 10th South Asian Games, to be staged at Colombo next year.

The last date for entries for Deepalpur event is Oct 25.—APP
