Fruit & vegetable prices on the rise
NAWABSHAH, Oct 11: The district administration has failed to implement Ramazan package in which prices of commodities were reduced to provide relief to people during the holy month.
A survey done by this correspondent revealed that fruit and vegetable prices had been increased by sellers on the first day of Ramazan.
The residents said no vendor was selling fruit and vegetables at prices set in the Ramazan package.
They said golden apple was being sold at Rs70, melon at Rs30, grapes at Rs70, lemons at Rs30, pomegranate at Rs65, tomatoes at Rs30, chillies at Rs15, potatoes at Rs20, ladyfinger at Rs30 per kg.
Chicken, beef and mutton prices have also skyrocketed.
The prices of rice, pulses, eggs, edible oil and other eatables were also increased at least from 10 per cent to 20 per cent.
It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had announced the Ramazan package reducing prices of essential items from five per cent to 15 per cent.
No teams have been formed to conduct raids or take action against profiteers in the district.
The people have demanded that the district administration should control prices of commodities in the holy month.
RELIEF CAMP: Activists of the People’s Party Parliamentarians has set up a relief camp on the Masjid road for collection of donations for earthquake victims of the upcountry.
Al-Khidmat and Jamaat-ut-Dara also set up camps in the city for collection of goods for earthquake victims.
WORKERS: Workers of the SCARP Irrigation Tube-well Workers Union staged a demonstration on Monday outside the press club in protest against non-payment of their salary and for regularization of services.
The workers blocked the press club road and raised slogans.
They were carrying placards and demanding justice.
They said 465 employees had not been paid salary for the last three years. Protesters said their children were starving as they were being continuously deprived of their salaries.
