GUJRANWALA, Oct 11: The anti-terrorism court No. 1 declared four activists of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal proclaimed offender following their involvement in marathon case and issued their non-bailable arrest warrants here on Tuesday.
According to the prosecution, the MMA activists had attacked the marathon race and set police and a minister’s vehicles on fire outside the Jinnah Stadium on April 3 this year. As a result of which the police baton-charged the protesters and arrested MNA Maulana Hamidullah, his son and others.
Later, the court released them on bail. But four accused, Jehanzeb Khan, Muhammad Abdullah, Muhammad Ishaq alias Hamid Mir and Muhammad Usman, did not appear before the court despite their bailable arrest warrants.
NAIB NAZIM POLLS: The ARD will contest the election of naib nazims of districts and towns following nominating its candidates and take disciplinary action against those councillors who supported the ruling PML in the third phase of local polls.
This was stated by PML-N former federal minister Ghulam Dastgir Khan, PPP city president Lala Idris and ex-district naib nazim Haji Gohar Zaman here on Tuesday.
DONATIONS: The Gujranwala Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education will pay one-day salary of all employees, besides other donations, to quake victims.
This was stated by the board chairman, Col Masoodul Haq (retired), at a reference held at the board complex on Tuesday. He appealed to the board employees to gather other donations for the instant relief of quake victims. A relief centre has been set up at the board office.
Also present were board secretary Chaudhry Muhammad Anwar and controller examination Dr Mumtaz Ahmad Awan.
GCCI aid: The Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry will send Rs10 million aid to the quake victims, while goods worth of Rs5 million have immediately been sent to the victim families.
GCCI head Akhlaq Butt said this at a news conference here on Tuesday. He appealed to philanthropists and the businessmen to donate generously for the quake affectees. He said a relief centre had also been set up at chamber office for the purpose.
MEDICAL TEAM: A 16-member team of DHQ medical officers left for the quake-hit areas along with life-saving medicines on Tuesday, DHQ MS Dr Nisar Ahmad Cheema said at a briefing. He said the doctors would provide medical aid to the injured on the spot.
EXHUMATION: The Gujranwala sessions court ordered on Tuesday exhumation of the body of a youth on the petition of his mother.
Reports said Yousaf Bengali of Kamoki was burnt in a factory and later died in hospital. His mother, however, contended in court that Yousaf was poisoned to death before being set to fire.
The court ordered exhumation of the body on Oct 15.
