Multi-storey buildings, plazas’ survey ordered

By Our Staff Correspondent

FAISALABAD, Oct 11: DCO Athar Husain has ordered a survey of all commercial plazas and multi-story buildings of the city. Presiding over a meeting here on Tuesday, the DCO said a special cell, headed by EDO (works) Mian Riaz Ahmad, would be set up to compile a report after conducting a survey whether the construction of these plazas and buildings had been carried out in accordance with the specifications and standards.

He said in case of any fault, defects or flaws, not only necessary steps would be taken to remove them, but also an action taken against the people of the departments concerned responsible for these defects.

The DCO said in future, an NOC would have to be obtained from the cell for the construction of a building having more than two storeys. The local administration would also ensure the use of quality material in the construction of such buildings in accordance with the prevalent architectural standards and designs keeping in view the natural disasters etc. so that the dangers to human lives from such buildings could be avoided.

It was also decided at the meeting that the Sui Gas, Fesco, Wasa, PTCL, Civil Defence and other departments concerned would set up a control room in their respective offices and nominate a responsible officer as a focal person so that in case of any natural calamity, rescue and relief operations could be carried out in an effective and a coordinated manner.

The DCO also asked the revenue and TMA officers to utilize magisterial powers delegated to them by the government in an effective manner, conduct frequent raids to check prices and award maximum penalty to those involved in adulteration, price hike and other malpractice.

Speaking to the participants in a meeting held here on Tuesday to monitor the Ramazan arrangements, the DCO stressed the need for an improvement in the working of administrative officers with regard to the price control measures.

He asked the officers to refrain from sitting in their offices, and directed them to move out to markets and bazaars etc. to take an action against those involved in creating artificial price hike.

He asked the field officers to send him reports with regard to price checking raids on a daily basis, and warned that any lethargy or laxity displayed by them in price control enforcement would have an adverse reflection in their ACRs.

The DCO asked all DDORs to visit special bazaars set up in their respective areas for ensuring continuity in the supply of edibles and other commodities to the people.
