KARACHI: SHC issues notices in hostel case

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 11: The Sindh High Court issued notices to the advocate-general and respondent police officials in a petition by a former administrator of a girls hostel for action on a report of inquiry into a police raid.

Petitioner Ghazal Shafiq submitted that a police party, accompanied by Rev Sadiq Daniel, who had failed to oust her as Brenton Carey Girls Hostel, Karachi, and his associates, raided the hostel and broke into her office. They undressed her and beat her up and inmates who tried to intervene. SHO Ghazala and sympathizers from among the Christian community rescued her and others after some time.

Instead of recording the victims’ complaint, the Frere police registered a case against them. Following concern showed by the president and the prime minister, Saddar Town Police Officer Sanaullah Abbasi was asked to conduct an inquiry into the incident. Another inquiry was held by Additional Inspector-General Nayyar Hasnain on the home department’s direction. Both inquiry officers have submitted their reports. According to her information, action was recommended against the delinquent police officials. Alleging that action on the reports was being delayed, she requested the court to see the reports, order action on their recommendations and quash the FIR registered against her and her sympathizers. Notices were ordered to be issued for Oct 26.
