KARACHI: Millions more pour into relief fund

KARACHI, Oct 11: Various national and multinational companies have generously donated for the earthquake victims. The Pakistan International Airlines has pledged Rs40 million to President’s Earthquake Relief Fund. Of this, PIA has given Rs26 million in cash, Rs10 million in transportation of relief goods and Rs4 million in carrying relatives of the affected families to Islamabad.

PIA was also collaborating with the Citizens Foundation Relief Fund and it would provide, in a two-phased strategy, systematic relief to survivors of earthquake in northern areas and Azad Kashmir.

In the first phase, as an immediate relief, PIA would provide basic care packages including tents, blankets and food rations. In the second phase, it plans to construct 5,000 seismically-designed homes over the next two years, each costing Rs400,000.

AERO ASIA: Pervaiz Ahmed of Aero Asia told Dawn that the airline was transporting around 6,000kgs of relief goods free of cost daily from Karachi to Islamabad.

HUBCO: The Hubco has donated Rs50 million to the President’s Relief Fund for the victims of the country’s worst earthquake.

FPCCI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry has planned to raise Rs50 million fund for the affected people of earthquake. Rs10 million donation was announced by the FPCCI President, Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed, as initial contribution, on Tuesday.

KAPCO: The Kot Addu Power Company has announced support of Rs50 million besides one million rupees in terms of one-day salary from the employees towards President’s Relief Fund.

PPL: The Pakistan Petroleum Limited has contributed Rs20 million in President’s Relief Fund for the victims of the worst-ever earthquake that has hit the country. All the PPL staff and employees have also contributed their one-day salary to the President’s Relief Fund.

MERCK MARKER: German Merck KGaA Darmstadt and their Pakistani subsidiary Merck Marker Pvt Ltd donated Rs20 million to the Citizen’s Foundation Earthquake Relief Fund. It will also donate through the Pharma Bureau (multinational pharmaceutical companies of the overseas chambers of commerce and industry).

PSO: The Pakistan State Oil has donated Rs20 million. The company is also providing free jet fuel to Edhi Air Ambulance from all its eight PSO aviation facilities.

PKIC: The Pak-Kuwait Investment Company (Pvt) Limited has donated Rs20 million and one-day gross salary of all its employees.

UNION BANK: Among the financial institutions, Union Bank Ltd has donated Rs15 million to the relief fund.

ALLIED BANK: The Allied Bank Limited announced donation of Rs15 million to the relief funds while its staff also decided to give away their one-day salary.

LIONS CLUB: President Lion Ashok Mehta and Board of Directors of the International Association of Lions Clubs have sanctioned US$2,50,000 for quake victims. US$2,00,000 will be spent on projects of houses, schools and health centres rehabilitation, while US$50,000 will be spent on other works.

KPT: The Karachi Port Trust has donated Rs14 million towards President’s Relief Fund besides contribution of five-day salaries by the officers and three-day salaries by the employees.

CDC: The Central Depository Company of Pakistan Limited pledged Rs10 million towards the relief fund.

REFINERY: Pakistan Refinery has pledged Rs10 million in addition to one-day salary contributed by its staff.

ABAD: The Association of Builders and Developers has pledged Rs5 million in cash and relief goods worth Rs10 million.

EOBI: The Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution has pledged to contribute Rs10 million.

PEPL: The Petroleum Exploration Private Limited contributed one million rupees towards the president’s fund.

CPSP: The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan has donated Rs1 million to the president’s relief fund from its own resources. Besides, all employees of CPSP head office and all regional centres would donate their one-day salary to the fund.

FCS: Fishermen’s Cooperative Society would donate Rs0.5 million.

FUUAST: Students of the Federal Urdu University for Arts, Science and Technology raised Rs130,000 and arranged blankets and medicines for the quake victims.

Prof Manzoorul Islam donated Rs200,000 on his behalf while some students were providing voluntarily services on the airport to deal with relief supplies.

JUDGES: Chief Justice and Judges of Sindh High Court have decided to give their two-day salaries. The High Court employees have also decided to donate their one-day pay.

NICVD: Staff of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases has contributed one-day salary besides 20 per cent of their professional fees.

CITY GOVT: Employees of the City District Government of Karachi have donated their one-day salary in the President’s Relief Fund.

The city government also sent a 10-member fire brigade squad to Islamabad on Monday to participate in relief operations for helping the affected people.

PNSC: The Pakistan National Shipping Corporation Officers’ Association while expressing sorrow over the calamity announced to donate their one-day salary for the victims of the affected areas.

IBA: IBA Karachi staff and faculty members have donated one-day salary for earthquake victims.

KUTS: The Karachi University Teachers’ Society announced donation of one-day salary.
