LAHORE, Oct 10: With a large number of earthquake victims likely to be air-lifted to Lahore for treatment, all teaching hospitals have made ‘elaborate’ arrangements. The hospitals have constituted teams to receive the injured at the airport and other designated spots besides reserving over 1,300 beds, maximum number of ambulances and operation theatres.
Arrangements have also been made to host attendants accompanying the injured.
The city hospitals have already sent medical teams comprising surgeons, physicians and equipped with ambulances and medicines to the devastated sites.
KEMC/MAYO HOSPITAL: The King Edward Medical College academic council met under the chairmanship of principal Prof Mumtaz Hasan and took various measures.
It constituted a medical team that would visit the affected areas immediately.
As the hospital has already sent a truckload of life-saving medicines, the council decided to arrange another stock of medicines worth Rs1 million.
The hospital has reserved 500 beds and five operation theatres consisting of 17 tables.
The hospital Musafir Khana would provide free residence and three-time meal to the attendants.
AIMC/JH: The Allama Iqbal Medical College/ Jinnah Hospital has taken different measures.
Principal Prof Sibitul Hasnain told Dawn on Monday that five truckloads of medicines and a team of doctors and paramedics had been dispatched to AJK.
He said the hospital had reserved 200 beds and another 100 could be added, if required.
He said the hospital would extend all medicines, surgical items, laboratory tests as well as radiological investigation to quake victims free of cost. Attendants who would be accommodated in the college campus would get free food.
AIMC/JH board of management chairman Mehboob Iqbal, who is also patron-in-chief of Patient Welfare Association of the hospital, has placed association’s Rs20 million fund at the hospital’s disposal.
Prof Hasnain said that 20 operation theatres of the hospital would remain open round-the-clock.
He said the staff had voluntarily donated one-day salary to the President’s Relief Fund.
FJMC/GRH: Fatima Jinnah Medical College/Ganga Ram Hospital principal Prof Akbar Chaudhry has directed the medical superintendent to activate the hospital’s disaster plan to meet the challenge.
He has also asked all clinical professors and heads of departments to discharge all those patients who could be managed at home.
The principal has requested all staff members and students to get themselves registered for blood donation.
The FJMC academic council has also decided to set up a relief camp.
SZH: The Shaikh Zayed Hospital has sent of team of 25 doctors and six well-equipped ambulances to Islamabad.
According to a Cabinet Division decision, this team would be sent to a far-flung area.
The hospital administration has also reserved 50 beds.
SERVICES HOSPITAL: The Services Hospital has reserved 400 beds and stocked sufficient medicines, blood and other necessary items.
Hospital’s ambulances and other required machinery could be utilized round-the-clock.

LGH: Punjab transport and communication minister Chaudhry Zaheeruddin Khan on Monday visited Lahore General Hospital and inspected facilities requiring neuro-surgery treatment.
Medical superintendent Dr Ejaz Ahmad Sheikh said the hospital had reserved 162 beds and four ambulances.
He said the hospital had sent a team of seven doctors and a truckload of medicines to the affected areas.
Nursing superintendent Ishrat Ishaq said that nurses’ weekly holiday had been cancelled till Eidul Fitr. In case of more patients coming to the LGH, she said arrangements had been made in the nursing hostel.
PMA & CDG: The Pakistan Medical Association, Lahore, and City District Government have sent a 35-member team to Mansehra.
LMDC: The Lahore Medical and Dental College’s board of directors has announced a donation of Rs1 million.
