HYDERABAD, Oct 10: The Building Control Department of the Hyderabad Development Authority has started a survey of about 60 vulnerable buildings to verify whether the occupants are complying with earlier notices, requiring them to ensure proper maintenance of vulnerable points.
Official sources told Dawn that the officials began the survey on Monday in the wake of massive earthquake of high magnitude in the north of the country and Azad Kashmir, claiming lives of thousands of people.
The survey is aimed at inspecting at least 60 vulnerable and dangerous buildings in different parts of the city so that their current condition could be verified.
The occupants of the buildings had been issued notices earlier by the department concerned for immediate and necessary maintenance of different portions.
If the residents failed to comply with the notice they would be forced to do so.
All assistant directors of different wards of the department are leading the teams of technical officials.
Sources said that buildings included government property such as the circular building (goal building) which is in a dilapidated condition for several years and without any repairs by the City TMA which owns the building.
The circular building is ground plus four storey residential and commercial building where offices of advocates, newspapers were also located.
The offices are located on its two floors while there were apartments on three floors.
Over the years the TMA city has not been able to take care of its repair and maintenance in a proper manner.
The sewerage of the building is seeping into its foundations thus weakening its solid structure.
“From outside its conditions appears perfect but it is rotting and stinking from inside. Several correspondences have been made with the TMA, then HMC authorities and Commissioner Hyderabad”, said an official.
