KARACHI: Transporters warned

KARACHI, Oct 10: The Sindh Minister for Minerals, Irfanullah Marwat, taking strong notice of inflated bus fares being charged by transporters for upcountry routes of Islamabad, Hazara, Peshawar and Azad Jammu and Kashmir routes, warned stern action against them.

Various delegations of people belonging to upcountry areas called on the minister on Monday and told him that their areas and villages were devastated by the quake, while transporters were charging four-times inflated fares from them on these routes.

The minister assured the delegations that the route permits of all the transporters charging extra fares would be cancelled and in this regard CCPO Karachi and other relevant officials were given instructions.

He said that those profiteers, who wanted a windfall out of this national tragedy, would be taken to task. He said that they would be awarded punishment and fines as per rules.—PPI
