KARACHI, Oct 10: Sindh Ombudsman Yusuf Jamal has taken notice of reports that government pensioners are facing extreme hardships and even humiliation at the Treasury Office located in the city courts compound.

In a letter to Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, he expressed concern on this situation and requested him to direct the respective authorities to take remedial measures.

The ombudsman observed that such hardships should not be faced by any senior citizen and especially by those, who have rendered countless years of public service during their active careers.

In response, the chief secretary directed the finance secretary to take necessary action in the matter with intimation to him and the ombudsman.

On Monday, two ombudsman’s advisers visited the treasury office and talked to male and female government pensioners. They also questioned a Treasury Officer, who informed them that one-third of the office space had been set aside for utilization by Sindh Election Committee and further complications were caused by shortage of staff.

The advisers directed the Treasury Officer to compose a written list of necessities for the betterment of the office and submit the same to chief secretary so that Ombudsman Institution may follow up and ensure that dire needs are satisfied fully.—APP
