KARACHI, Oct 10: Hundreds of houses in Akhtar Colony and North Karachi have been receiving contaminated water for the last couple of weeks. Residents of North Karachi’s sectors 7D-1, 7D-2 and 7D-3 complained that they were continuously being supplied stinking water for the last 15 days but KWSB officials had not yet bothered to rectify the fault responsible for contamination although a number of complaints had been lodged with them.
Similarly, the residents of Akhtar Colony’s Sector-E deplored that around 500 houses of the locality, which were earlier experiencing acute water shortage were now-a-days getting contaminated water.
Attributing the cause of contamination to laying of pipelines underneath sewerage lines, a resident of the affected locality said that authorities concerned should make some alternative arrangements for potable water supply till the actual cause of water contamination was not ascertained.
Suspecting that sewage might be seeping into water lines, residents of the affected localities urged KWSB Managing Director and Chief Engineer (Water Distribution) to take stern action against those officials, who were not taking interest in resolving issues despite knowing that contaminated water might cause havoc with the lives of people.
SHORTAGE: Acute water shortage continues to persist in different parts of the city, forcing the residents of the affected localities to either purchase private rankers at exorbitant rates or consume sub-soil unhygienic water at the cost of their health.
The hard-hit localities include Kharadar, Burnes Road, Haqqani Chowk, parts of Ranchorre Lines, Clifton’s blocks 2, 4 and 7, North Nazimabad’s blocks C and H, Gulistan-i-Jauhar’s blocks 12 and 13, and Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Block-16.
