GOLF: Pakistan and India golf next month

LAHORE, Oct 9: Sixteen corporate giants of India and as many from Pakistan will lock horns in the second two-nation golf tournament being held at the Royal Palm course from Nov 22 to 24.

The inaugural competition was held at the DLF Golf and Country Club, Delhi, India, earlier this year, Faisal Qureshi, a former Pakistan No.1 amateur player who is currently settled in India, told a press conference on Sunday.

He said according to the format on the first day the teams would face off in four ball better ball stroke play event.

There would be eight pairs from Pakistan playing against similar number of pairs from India, he said.

On the second day they would play in another four ball better ball match.

Faisal said that Kevin Hind would act as chief referee of the championship.

He would be ably assisted by Nonita Lall Qureshi, who had the rare distinction of winning the Indian national ladies title (seven times) and also the Pakistan national ladies title twice.

He said all the participants were skilled golfers and he was expecting very satisfying cards from them.

Some of the names that could cause ripples of a tough fight were Taimur Hassan, Shaukat Tareen, Ramzan Sheikh, M. M Hashim Khan, Asad Kazmi and Asad I.A Khan.

From the Indian side, a former national name, Ashok Malik would be there.

Other names that were known till now were Hardeep Singh, head of Cargill India and K.P Singh, chairman of DLF Group, a massive corporate empire and Ranjan Bhattacharya.
