ISLAMABAD, Oct 9: World leaders have expressed deep sorrow and grief over the casualties caused by devastative earthquake in Pakistan.
JAPAN: Emperor Akihito of Japan has expressed his heartfelt condolence over the tragic loss of many lives caused by the powerful earthquake in Pakistan.
In a message to President Gen Pervez Musharraf, Emperor Akihito said he was deeply grieved at the sad news of the great loss of life and serious damage caused by the earthquake.
Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, in separate condolence messages to President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, said the Government of Japan had decided to dispatch a Japan disaster relief team in light of the friendly relations between Japan and Pakistan.
Japanese Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura has also condoled with Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri.
SOUTH KOREA: South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun on Sunday sent a message to President Gen Pervez Musharraf to express his condolence for the huge casualties caused by a devastating earthquake.
In the message, Roh Moo-hyun expressed his deep sorrow over the enormous human suffering and property damage experienced by Pakistan and prayed for its speedy rehabilitation.
He hoped for the quick rescue and rehabilitation from the disaster.
CHINA: Chinese leaders, including President Hu Jintao and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, sent their condolences to Pakistan following Saturday’s deadly earthquake that left hundreds dead.
In a message to President Musharraf, Hu Jintao expressed deep grief over those killed in the quake.
Wen Jiabao and Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing have also sent messages to their Pakistani counterparts.
INDONESIA: Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Sunday extended his condolence to Pakistan over the deadly earthquake, with the government saying it would send a medical team to the country.
THAILAND: Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has sent condolence messages to Pakistani leaders after the earthquake that rocked parts of the country, saying Thailand stood ready to help.
In a message to President Musharraf, Mr Shinawatra said the Thai government and its people wished to extend their sympathy and condolence to those affected by the disaster which claimed at least 18,000 lives.
“The Thai government is ready to provide support and assistance to our friends in Pakistan.”
BRITAIN: Queen Elizabeth II of Britain in her message addressed to President Gen Pervez Musharraf said she was shocked to hear of the devastating earthquake which had caused such destruction and loss of life in Pakistan.
NORWAY: The Norwegian government has expressed its deepest and profound sympathy with the government and people of Pakistan over the death and destruction caused by the earthquake.
TURKEY: Turkish President Ahmet Needet Sezer, Prime Minister Recep Erdogan, Commander of the Turkish Armed Forces General Hilmi Ozkok and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul have sent their condolence messages to their respective Pakistani counterparts on the disastrous earthquake.
