ISLAMABAD, Oct 9: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has said aftershocks of the Saturday earthquake would continue for another two to three days, but their intensity would reduce gradually.
An official of the department said that earlier they had predicted that the aftershocks would end on Monday morning. However, due to excessive energy produced by the first earthquake, the aftershocks would continue for longer time than expected. Till 5:38pm on Sunday, 26 aftershocks with different intensity had rocked upper Punjab, NWFP, Northern Areas and Kashmir.
According to the Met office, the first tremor measuring 7.6 at Richter Scale was recorded at 8:50:39am on Saturday followed by the second highest jolt measuring 6.2 at 3:46pm.
The intensity of the aftershocks and their timings were 5.9 at 9:26am followed by 5.4 at 10:08am; 5.6 at 10:19am; 5.6 at 10:26am; 5.5 at 11:15am; 5.4 at 11:42am; 4.6 at 12:37pm; 5.2 at 1:31pm; 5.2 at 2:01pm; 5.1 at 3:16pm; 4.8 at 3:31pm; 6.2 at 3:46pm; 5.3 at 4:28pm; 5.5 at 4:33pm; 5.5 at 4:08pm; 5.9 at 5:25pm; 5.3 at 5:44pm; 5.1 at 6:46pm, and 4.5 at 8:23pm on Saturday.
