Three killed in Punjab

LAHORE, Oct 8: Three minor girls were killed and more than 100 injured, most of them female students, as Saturday morning tremors caused buildings’ collapse and stampede in different parts of the central Punjab.

Tremors were felt in all parts of the Punjab — as far as Rahim Yar Khan which borders Ghotki district of Sindh. Their intensity was however severe up to Multan. The damage to property and lives was mostly reported from central Punjab districts.

The two deaths were reported from Mandi Bahauddin and Sailkot. In Mandi, the school building of Good Primary School, Bhikhi, caved in. Minor Rimsha died on the spot while eight other injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.

The boundary wall of a private school in Mandi Bahauddin collapsed and left two minors wounded. Two students of the Govt Sir Syed High School were injured during the stampede.

In Sialkot, 60 students of various government and private schools were injured during a stampede.
