Horse-racing: Tharkyee fancied to clinch feature event today

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Oct 8: Tharkyee, a three-year-old colt, is fancied to win the feature event when the Winter Gymkhana race meeting starts at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday. Having won the six furlongs Administrator Cup on Sept 25 by five lengths with Fahim K in the saddle, he starts as our days best and poised to repeat his winning feat.

Tharkyee is pitted against eight contenders in the six furlongs Div I & II last race of the programme. Chestnut, Thanks Naeem and three-year-old filly, Queen Of Sanghar, should battle it out for the places.

As many as seven races have been chalked out for the day with first beginning at 12.30 pm. The jackpot will have five races instead of four.

Nine-year-old mare, Taneez, who had a poor run in the last four outings, is expected to overcome her bad patch by winning the first race which has a field of nine contestants.

Half-bred, Super Time and Chestnut gelding, Prosmatic, should clinch a place. Both were placed second and third respectively in the last meeting.

Syed Nadeem Anwar’s Moj-e-Arab is tipped to clinch honours in the second race which is restricted to Pakistani colts and fillies of two year-old.

Chestnut, Moon Raker, who had to be content with second place in the last race, and filly, Jan-e-Mun, would pose a threat to Moj-e-Arab.

Four-year-old bay colt, Azam The Great should dominate the third race of the programme. He finished runners-up behind Chand Aya in the last race. Also in fray among others were chestnut, Cool Water, and half-bred, Desperado.

Chestnut, Leo Again, should dominate the fourth race which has a field of eleven aspirants. Royal Reach, a five-year-old horse, and First Shot, a four-year-old filly, should settle it out for a place.

Haji Khuda Bux Rajar’s three-year-old colt, Silent Angel, is set to create an upset by winning the fifth race. Seven-year-old, Order Of The day and ten-year-old mare, Sonia should clinch the places.
