KARACHI, Oct 8: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim have expressed their profound grief and shock over the loss of human and material life in the earthquake-hit parts of the country.
In a message, the chief minister expressed his sympathies with the affected people and offered condolences to the bereaved families.
He also announced a donation of Rs10 million each for the Punjab, NWFP, Azad Kashmir and federally-administered tribal areas (FATA) for relief works.
He said that people of Sindh fully stood by their calamity-affected brothers.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad also expressed his grief over causalities and damage caused by the earthquake in various parts of the country.
Condoling with the affected families and governments of the Punjab, NWFP and Azad Kashmir, he prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased and early recovery of the injured.
He said that in this testing time, the government and people of Sindh were feeling devastated and were fully with their affected brethren. He said that all relevant departments, relief agencies, NGOs and philanthropists would come forward for the rescue of the affected people without any loss of time.
EDHI: Eminent social worker Abdus Sattar Edhi has announced a donation of Rs10 million for the quake-hit people.
According to an Edhi Foundation spokesman, Abdus Sattar Edhi, Bilquees Edhi and Faisal Edhi would be supervising rescue and relief work after reaching Islamabad on Saturday evening. An Edhi air ambulance (helicopter) has been dispatched to the affected areas to pick bodies of victims and airlift the injured to nearby hospitals.
All Edhi volunteers in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and adjoining areas were asked to rush to Margalla Towers, F-10, Islamabad, and join in the rescue and relief work.
The Church World Service (Pakistan/Afghanistan) has chalked out a relief plan to rehabilitate victims of the earthquake.
In a press statement, it said that consignments of food and shelter kits for 600 affected families of NWFP and Azad Kashmir were being dispatched immediately while similar relief goods for another 5,000 families would be sent to the quake-hit areas later.
FPCCI: Chaudhry Mohammad Saeed, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry, has expressed his deep sorrow and grief over the loss of precious lives and valuable property caused by the strong earthquake in the country.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, he said that the FPCCI would raise funds through collection from the business community members to mitigate sufferings of the affected people.
