KARACHI, Oct 8: Over a dozen educational institutions have been badly hit in the Baghdadi Union Council of Lyari Town by water crises while every hue and cry by residents has gone unheard.
A survey of the affected areas shows that schools and colleges situated on the D.D. Chowdhary Road, Mir Mohammad Baloch Road and Fidha Hussain Sheika Road were hard hit due to suspension of normal water supply for the past two weeks.
All three roads are very important in the union council, as they house several government and private schools and colleges besides commercial institutions, and are centres of public utility services including a telephone exchange.
Parents complained that due to non-availability of drinking water, many children refused to go to schools. On the other side, school managements said they were making every effort to improve the situation by private means.
However, the overall situation cannot improve unless major steps are taken to improve normal water supply to the affected areas.
Parts of Baghdadi have not been receiving normal water supply for the past two weeks. Instead, residents said they received filthy water from dried taps.
Some people said they had been getting contaminated water for several weeks probably due to leakages in the pipelines.
Residents of the localities along Fifha Husain Sheika Road – the worst affected by the problem – said sewage was getting mixed with tap water due to broken pipelines.
