LAHORE, Oct 7: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) thrashed Navy 5-0 at Army sports complex Rawalpindi to occupy second place in the Pakistan Premier football League on Friday.
Bankers success pushed aside Afghan Club of Chaman from second spot. NBP and Afghan Club have 34 points and both are three points behind leaders Wapda (37points). Bankers, however, have better goal difference.
The star performer for NBP was Farooq Shah who struck twice. He created a new record of scoring the fastest goal, beating his own 44th second record established at Faisalabad against Panther Club.
Farooq struck in the 22nd seconds after he was involved in a move with his strike partner Sattar Mansuri.
Sattar doubled the lead from close range in the 22nd minute. Farooq enhanced the lead to 3-0 in the 56th minute with fine solo effort. Abdul Aziz, struck the fourth goal with long-range drive and four minutes from The time, Imran completed the tally with well-timed shot.
It was 12th defeat for Navy who are currently eleventh in the table with 12 points from 17 matches, above bottom-placed PWD. Both are in danger of being relegated to B-Division in 2006.
