PESHAWAR, Oct 7: Newly-elected Nazim of Peshawar district Haji Ghulam Ali has said he will seek a special development package from President Musharraf.

Talking to nazims and councillors here on Friday, he said that he would take all the elected representatives along and make relentless efforts for development of the city. Mr Ali said he would also cooperate with the MPAs and MNAs to put the city of Peshawar on the path of development.

“The prosperity of the people is dearer to me than anything else. I will strive hard to change the present infrastructure of the city”, he said. He vowed that he in consultation with his colleagues in the district councils would carry out a survey in the district and provide natural gas and electricity to the people in the rural areas.

Moreover, he said that provision of safe drinking water to the people topped his list of priorities, saying that many people were falling sick due to the consumption of contaminated water. Efforts would be made to provide the people with clean drinking water so they could be protected against the water-borne ailments.

The people, he said would soon feel change, because the benefits of the steps of the district council would trickle down to them.

He said that repair and widening of roads would also be taken into consideration, because it posed serious problems to the people. Mr ali said that underpasses and flyovers would be constructed in appropriate places to lessen the burden of vehicular traffic.
