GUJRAT, Oct 7: The Kharian Saddar police on Thursday night registered a case against 30 men, including MNA Qamar Zaman Kaira and his family members, for attacking the Government High School polling station and forcibly removing ballot boxes.

The case was registered on the complaint of SHO Aftab Sabir.

Five of the nominated accused are; MNA Qamar Zaman, his brothers Tahir and Sajid, Pervaiz Iqbal Kaira and Azam Abdal. Four of them are close relatives of former Kharian tehsil nazim Nadeem Asghar.

Nadeem had contested the tehsil nazim election against Syed Noorul Hasan Shah. The polling station was attacked during counting of votes. After the attack, Kairas had been claiming victory by two votes, while the Shahs of Qulewal Syedan had been claiming that they had been going ahead by over 250 votes when the polling station was attacked.

The case was registered under sections 171, 172 of Local Government Election Ordinance and 324, 353, 395 and 186 of the PPC.—Correspondent
