Governor, CM congratulate successful candidates

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Oct 7: NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman and Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani have congratulated the newly elected district, town and tehsil nazims in the province.

In a message to the nazims and councillors elect, the governor expressed the confidence that under their leadership the local government system would be strengthened and problems and grievances of people would be resolved expeditiously. He expressed the hope that they would come up to the expectations of the government and the people.

He said the smooth conduct and completion of the election process was a proof of the success of the efforts being made by the country’s leadership for strengthening democratic institutions and promoting democratic norms.

Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani, in his message, held out the assurance that his government would cooperate with all the nazims in the best interest of the province.

Keeping the will of people in esteem, the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government would carry out its development schemes in consultation with the nazims of districts and tehsils, so that all spheres of life could witness a positive change, he said.

He expressed good wishes for all the elected nazims, naib nazims and councillors, irrespective of political affiliations, and said the elections held in a peaceful atmosphere demonstrated political awareness among the contenders.

The local body institutions’ leadership should make all out efforts for the development of the country by downplaying all the political disputes to strengthen democracy in the country, he maintained.

He said the establishment of democratic institutions at local level had created awareness about democracy. He said the local body elections might prove to be a test of the popularity of candidates for the next general elections.

He urged the elected representatives to bid farewell to their disputes and live up to the norms and traditions of the NWFP, besides concentrating on public welfare and regional development.
