KARACHI: Enforcement of ban on heavy vehicles ordered
KARACHI, Oct 7: The Sindh Transport Minister, Mohammed Adil Siddiqi, directed the traffic police to take all possible measures for smooth flow of traffic during the month of Ramazan so that people could reach their homes for “Iftar” in time.
He called for proper manning of roundabouts and intersections by traffic cops and ensuring that traffic signals were not violated by hurrying drivers.
Mr Siddiqi said that strict action should be taken on violation of traffic signals.
He said now when the city government had opened some of the under construction roads, it was for the traffic police to ensure smooth traffic passage.
Meanwhile, the DIG Traffic Karachi, Falak Khurshid, on Friday directed SSPs traffic zones to take steps for maintaining smooth flow of vehicular traffic in the city and ensure deployment of traffic cops at busy roads.
He further ordered the SSPs to ensure that ban on entry of heavy vehicles and goods carriages in the city limits be strictly followed and to take legal action against the violators.
According to a spokesman of the Karachi traffic police, road heading towards Gul Bahar area has been opened for traffic during the month of Ramazan and parking is prohibited on both sides of the road.
The spokesman further said that in order to ensure smooth traffic flow, parking was not allowed on main roads and around markets.
He said that for smooth flow of traffic at Sher Shah signal/roundabout the alternate route for heavy vehicles going to Hub in Balochistan via Sher Shah was Northern Bypass.
The spokesman invited journalists to cooperate with the traffic police and identify those areas where traffic jams were creating problems.—APP / PPI
